Bhiksuni Jampa Tsedroen

In 1959 Carola Roloff was born in Holzminden , Germany . At the age of 21, she journeyed to Dharamsala , India to engage in Vajarayana Buddhist Studies. At the age of 22 she became a novice (Samani) at the Vajrayana Buddhist Meditation Center in Hamburg , Germany . She engaged in studies of Buddhist debate with Geshe Tuhubten Ngawang in Hamburg , Germany . At the age of 26 she received her Bhiksuni ordination at Miao Tung Monastery in Kaosiung , Taiwan . Thereafter, she was known as Bhiksuni Jampa Tsedroen. By the age of 33, she published, A Brief Survey of the Vinaya, Hamburg : Dharma edition 1992.

Her scholarly and phenomenological expertise span language and cultural studies of old and medieval India and of the Chinese region (formerly-known as Tibet ), all focusing on Buddhism. Bhiksuni Jampa Tsedroen has managed and been a board member of many illustrious projects and committees such as The Vajrayana Buddhist Meditation Center of Hamburg, Germany, the German Buddhist Union, the Buddhist Religious Community of Germany, Sakyadhita International Buddhist Women’s Organization, to mention a few. Her wisdom and compassion have shed light in many a university, including The University of Hamburg which in 2003 honored her with the title of “Magistra Artium.” At present the Bhiksuni Jampa Tsedroen is pursuing her doctoral studies at the same educational institution.

Bhiksuni Jampa Tsedroen has worked to protect the rights of the oppressed and to understand the hearts of many in order to create a culture of peace and understanding.
