Angoon Wongchareon
Thailand
Thai Red Cross Nurse Angoon Wongcharoen has for 16 years been coordinating disaster management and assisting victims of natural disasters in the 12 southern provinces of Thailand, including the Thai Red Cross response to the Tsunami disaster of 2004. As a key person, team leader, coordinator and head nurse of the Sirithorn Red Cross Health Station, she directs a specially-trained team of nurses who work in community health and disaster relief services. Nurse Angoon and her team have initiated disaster risk reduction projects for coastal and island communities in southern Thailand.
Her spiritual inspiration to assist persons in need arose from a deep love and respect for her parents, her Dhamma explorations at Suan Mokh Meditation Center with Bhikkhu Buddhatat, and her Bodhisattva ethic as a Thai-Chinese. Nurse Angoon Wongcharoen holds certificates dedicated to helping humanity ranging from epidemiology and sanitation to psychotherapy and emergency response and relief.
Over the years, her love has touched the hearts of many and her hands have delivered food, water and relief goods to thousands of people.
