Dr. Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan

Thailand

Dr. Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan graduated from Mahidol University Medical School, and worked at Puttachinnarat Hospital, Ramathibodi Hospital, and now serves as the Acting-Director of the Ministry of Justice’s Department of Forensic Science.

Brilliant, strong, aware, sensitive and insightful are a few descriptors for Thailand’s leading medical doctor who works to protect the vulnerable be they alive or deceased by answering questions that bring about justice and human dignity for Thai society. Through the use of science, DNA testing and her commitment to justice by working to establish a Missing Persons Bureau for Thailand, Dr. Khunying Porntip brings Thailand into the modern era in a region of the world filled with trafficking of women and children, unanswered murders, and corrupt police.

The tsunami of 2004 resulted in more than 5,000 deaths (Thai & international) and Dr. Porntip rushed to the site and took charge of one of the world’s largest forensic jobs. Also, in the deep south of Thailand, where a war is waging, she has sought justice for all, and stood square and strong against the police to identify the cause of death of the ethnic persons brutally murdered in the Tak Bai Massacre.

Her deep commitment as a Buddhist has sustained her in her pursuits, as well as the good example set by her parents and her love for her daughter and husband.
