Born in 1967, she, without a mother, was raised by her father along with her four siblings. She found herself in close proximity to monks and nuns. The allure of Buddhism beckoned through encounters with the Most Venerable Nun Dhammawati Guruma. In 1990, she and her childhood friend embarked on the path to become nuns. She studied in Kathmandu and then in Sri Lanka.

Lumbini resonated with her heart. She rode her bicycle, and taught Dhamma at the Lumbini Pariyatti Center. Then she established the Lumbini Gyan Prabha School for underprivileged children. She became involved in various local organizations, and now serves Lumbini, its organizations and foundations in many roles as: Founder, President, Spiritual Director, Coordinator and Executive Committee Member contributing to the growth and development of the region.

Bhikkhuni Khamesi Guruma is the Abbess of the International Gautami Nuns' Temple in Lumbini, and plants seeds of compassion throughout the region of Lumbini which are fostering a legacy of enlightenment and service to humanity.
