Lucy Salim was born in Medan, Indonesia in 1951. She graduated from Design School and became an entrepreneur, housewife and Buddhist Social Organization Activist.

Currently, she is the Head of the Indonesian Women's Buddhist Fellowship, 2018-2028. She has served as the Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson of several international gatherings including: the Asian Buddhism Connection International Conference and the Sakyadhita Conference, respectively. She has represented and served the Buddhist community at numerous national events, as well as, those overseas.

When Covid 19 struck, she collaborated with health centers and medical doctors in Jakarta, thereby providing vaccines several times for hundreds of persons each time in West Jakarta. Creatively, Lucy Salim organized National Online Training of Buddhist Trainers in Premarital Counseling. There were more than 300 participants for each session of training. In Central Jakarta in 2021 and 2024, Lucy Salim collaborated with the Indonesian National Family Planning Agency and health center to feed malnourished children. This provided millions of Rupiahs so that children could receive 3 months of eggs and milk, and other nutrients.

In 2021, she travelled to Malawi, in southeast Africa and provided funds, social work and health services to orphaned children.

With the leadership of Lucy Salim, the Indonesian Buddhist Women's Fellowship in 2024 was awarded for preserving traditional clothing of Indonesian women, as well as, for the Premarital Counseling Program and the Nutritional Supplementation Program for malnourished children.
