Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio was born in Medan, Indonesia in 1960. She earned her degree in Health Sciences. Later, she ordained as a Samaneri and then as a Bhikkhuni.
She built three temples: Padmamul Temple in Palembang in 1992, Bao En Temple in Palembang in 1995, and Prajna Dhayana Temple in Jakarta in 2011. Currently, she is the Abbess of Prajna Shanti Temple in Palembang.
Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio represented Palembang and Jakarta as a member of Sangha WALUBI, Indonesia's Buddhist Sangha Council. She also contributed nationally, beyond her duties of daily temple life, by accepting responsibility for the main altar decorations during Vesak Day at Mendut Temple from 2003-2005, at Borobudur Temple from 2006-2016, and the main Mahayana altar for Vesak Day 2023 in Borobudur. She represented Indonesia overseas by participating in the United Nations' Vesak Conference in Vietnam in 2014, and in Thailand in 2023.
Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio provided disaster relief services to persons impacted by the 2004 Banda Aceh Tsunami, the 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake and the 2009 Padang earthquake. She also organized free medical services at Prajna Dhyana Temple and in East Nusa Tenggara. Each year she organizes basic necessities distribution to those experiencing poverty, those in nursing homes and orphans in children's homes.
She offered Eight-fold Path training in 2023 at Prajna Dhyana Temple in Jakarta, and short-term training at Guanyin Temple in Jakarta in 2014 and again in 2023. Most Venerable Bhikkhuni Ng A. Tjio has focus, accepts responsibility, and offers charity to others. She walks the Bodhisattva Path.
