Venerable Khemawati was born in 1970. She graduated from high school and at the age of 16, she ordained and began training with Bhikkhuni Dhammawati Shakya of Dharmakirti Vihar, in Kathmandu, Nepal.
At the age of 29, her teacher sent her to Thailand to receive her Buddhist academic education.
Venerable Khemawati proudly returned to Nepal with a B.A. and an M.A. in Buddhism. She earned her M.A. from the International Buddhist College.
Venerable Khemawati speaks 5 languages: Newari, Nepali, Thai, English and Hindi. She has served as a Dhamma teacher at Dharmakirti Vihar for years, as well as, a language teacher, translator, coordinator, and international Buddhist guide in Nepal and Thailand. She has translated texts from Thai into Nepali.
Venerable Khemawati has traveled the world propagating Buddhism in: Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria and now Indonesia.
Venerable Khemawati is very patient and has rested deeply in the Dharma for nearly four decades. She is currently the Vice-Abbess of Dharmakirti Vihar in Kathmandu, Nepal, and cares for the Abbess, Bhikkhuni Dhammawati Shakya, who is now in her 90s.
