Bhikkhuni Dhammanusari
Cambodia - Canada
Bhikkhuni Dhammanusari was born Chou Serey.
She was ordained as a white-robed nun by Cambodian Bhikkhu: T. T. Dhammo Mahathera in September 2016. At that time, she told many Cambodian monks that she wanted to become a full monastic, because she never considered gender, just to become fully-ordained as they were. However, they said, "No" to her at the time.
So, she continued to study by herself; she read. She knew that she could become a Bhikkhuni no matter how many negative responses she received. On February 18, 2018, in Sri Lanka, she received ordination as a Samaneri by Venerable Professor Dr. Pollamure Sarata Mahathera Mahamahopadhyaya.
In September 2018, she was invited by Bhikkhuni Agga Dhamma Gavesi to Australia, and after the rains retreat they journeyed to Vietnam and Cambodia. Samaneri Dhammanusari requested her to please remain with her in Cambodia as it was her first time in the saffron-robes as a woman in Cambodia and would be staying at a temple.
Samaneri Dhammanusari taught novice monks and children at the local village school, Wat Kraya School in Thom Province. Then she traveled to another temple, called, "Three Rocks Temple" of the Dhammayuth tradition. In 2022, she received an invitation to take Higher Ordination from Maha Theri Tathaloka on September 11, 2022.
She writes, "I have patience, and now some Bhikkhus are happy to see me and very supportive. I walk slowly, step-by-step."
She has a message to ladies. "I give courage to all other ladies if you think this is your Path, for your liberation, free to be Nibbana. Please be patient. Walk together as the Buddha said, 'My Savika are: Bhikkhu, Bhikkhuni, Upasaka, Upasika to make the Buddha Sasana strong.'"
