Bhikkhuni Souvannaratana

Laos

The true depth of her faith was tested not in the quiet of a temple, but in the chaos of life. Souvanna faced the harrowing reality of escaping war, leaving behind the only home she knew to seek safety in an unfamiliar land. As a refugee, she navigated the daunting challenges of cultural displacement, learning to adapt to a new country while carrying the heavy weight of what was lost.

Throughout her journey, the "Three Marks of Existence"—impermanence, suffering, and non-self—became lived experiences. She faced the physical trials of sickness and losing her spouse. Yet, where others might have found despair, Souvanna found a deeper resonance with the Four Noble Truths. This drove her to the path of becoming a Bhikkhuni to spread the teachings of Buddhism and to advance her education in the faith.
